I still hold to my view that the Athlon is what you get when you take the P6 core and throw three times as many transistors at it.

From a CPU architects point of view, this is very far from the truth. K7 was architected based on the Alpha experience, and P6 came from a totally different viewpoint.

That is why Intel will have to pull all the stops to keep up with K7 MHz. Imagine how much fun we will have when Intel starts jacking up Coppermine's voltage!
