<Do you feel it is possible, at all, for the US stock market to go down 50% or more from its present levels, and not recover those losses for a period of 10 years?

Is it even conceivable to you? Or is it something you consider so silly and implausable that you've never given it any serious thought?>

My own humble opinion- no. I cannot see how the US stock market can collapse to that extent for such a long period of time. Demographics and technology-driven productivity increases (and the fact that the US will not relinquish its lead over the rest of the world in the new economy for at least the next 5-8 years) will not allow it.

With that said, I am very negative on the market right now, and believe short-term risks are very significant. I am no longer long any stocks in my trading accounts, and shorted RNWK today. Picked RNWK because of major inets it has longest distance to fall before major support. We shall see what the next few days bring.
