Ah, but how differently some of us learn (fortunately, it seems).
I've recognized for the several months that I've used it that the old SI was kludgy, anti-intuitive, and downright ugly. I put up with all of that because I enjoyed the quality of the discussion here. (At least in most threads. This one is becoming an exception, but that will happen occasionally.)
I really have come to appreciate the elegant design of the new site, and appreciate it even more during the server burps on the beta system when I have to jump over to the old system.
Two examples: When reading multiple messages (which I still usually do one at a time), I find in the new version that my mouse rarely travels more than a few inches from the right edge of the screen. I have "SubjectMarks" set as the last item on my toolbar. When I'm done with a message, I can move the couple of inches to the top or press the right-justified "View SubjectMarks" at the bottom of the message. Once I get to the SubjectMarks, I can renew the page using the same method I used to get there originally. (On the fossil site, one must use a different method to refresh the screen.) That "SubjectMarks" stays there whatever I'm doing. I can read news from Reuters, check market conditions with "Market Monitor", read an article like "SI Daily", and always get back to the most important things -- the messages -- with just one click.
That's elegance. |
