Many thanks to everyone on this thread for the info you've posted about battery-operated lanterns and lamps. Yesterday I bought the battery-op Coleman lantern 5358H705 for $29.99. It operates on 8 D batteries. Although I expect to need its really bright light only occasionally and possibly even rarely, I'm glad to have it! I had overlooked this same lantern in the same store several times because I simply assumed it was propane-powered. But thanks to your posts I looked again and--voila!--it was battery powered.
