Class of 2003 Midshipmen to Use Dell OptiPlex Desktops
ROUND ROCK, Texas, July 27, 1999 -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq: DELL) announced today that the United States Naval Academy (USNA), located in Annapolis, Md, has selected Dell desktop PCs for the 1,150 incoming midshipmen in the class of 2003. According to the contract, Dell will provide each of the midshipmen with a Dell OptiPlex® GX1 450 MHz Pentium III desktop computer. In addition, Dell will provide USNA faculty and staff with OptiPlex desktop PCs to meet their computing needs.
The USNA contract follows a similar announcement last week in which Dell will deliver 1,340 Precision® WorkStations to United States Air Force Academy faculty and incoming cadets.
On August 20, 1999, the USNA will issue Dell desktop PCs to the incoming midshipmen. Dell will provide a video-based training session for the cadets on the use of the hardware and software and Dell technical support personnel will also be present during the distribution process, ensuring the smooth operation of each desktop PC. Through DellPlus, Dell's custom integration service, each PC will receive factory-installed software and customization to USNA specifications.
