Coug, I have seen bombings, and dead bodies strewed around the street, and stinking, decomposed corpses dug up so they could be identified, and children whose legs have been blown off by mines, & etc.

When some of this was shown on television, it aroused a certain amount of sympathy among casual viewers. When it was no longer "news," the casual viewers lost interest in the victims of that particular tragedy. I retain mine.

I am not convinced that "our" society is any more insensitive to tragedy than other societies. As a matter of fact, I would argue that it is probably less so. I might be inclined to say that our society takes a rather superficial and sometimes sentimentalized view of tragedy, but there are worse things than that...
