Have spent hours today back testing this premise. I like to call it the "malaise measure" or the "ennui indicator". Found a surprising strong correlation! Unfortunately not a leading indicator but a trailing one( I get bummed when I'm long and the market goes down )<ggg>.

Re: MSFT, I really would like to get out of my poots @ say 2 1/2 and then join you(probably with leaps) on the ride back up. From my check on the charts it seems that it has been more than 2 years since one could have gotten MSFT at a 20% discount from its most recent top.
Not to mention that (incorrectly, taking puts alone) I have max pain ~85(my strike).

Thought that MG TB and TM really nailed it with Monsanto and Ford. An investment guy from Delaware funds had an interesting rotational theory.. That with earnings growth driving appreciation and the hot sectors(til now) being drugs and tech(played out) the next move that makes since is the cyclicals. The reason being that they have cut costs with downsizing and reorganized to the bone so that they are thoroughbreds ready to run but being global in nature need a global recovery to translate their "lean and mean" into earnings. A recovery that may be just beginning. I gotta admit I liked that.
