I feel the long term prospect are good, but I too am concerned that we will never be mainstream.

I know your question was to Robert, but I'll add my two-cents. Having just attended phone.com's Unwired Universe conference for wireless applications, I can assure you there's an entire industry being developed around the wireless handset market and I'm quite confident VARL did its homework before risking investor's money on new manufacturing facilities. Jupiter Communications is predicting there will be 500 million global wireless subscribers by 2003. Hitachi claims they'll have 50 m wireless date users by 2001. Jupiter also claims 2/3s of US households will be online by 2002 and that non-PC devices will account for 10 to 15M of usage, with more online households than computing households. By 2003 the US will account for over 30M wireless data users.

Japan will be first to adopt 3G, then Europe and after that North America. There will be several iterations along the way.

As I understand it, the wireless data market with the more sophisticated handsets is Vari-L's target. Basestations will also become more sophisticated as highspeed access becomes more critical. Also as spectrum becomes more valuable.

If my perceptions are incorrect, please correct me.
