I believe that this is not correct...could you please quote your source for this info? Also, I find it amusing that the reason you choose "averaging" is that it is easier. It's easier for me too, but if I did that it would cost me a bundle. "Averaging" would make me owe the IRS $11K for 1996 (in addition to my withholding), by using FIFO, they'll owe me about $1K. Good thing the rules specify FIFO, huh?
