I think you've got it right Paul!

Only a 'minor' tweak in perception, but it has major implications.

Every Novell Server MUST deal with Win95 & Win NT as clients ... and can even sell 'border services' to someone that already has bought an NT Server. But, I think they MUST avoid cultivating or supporting the customer perception that NT Server can add any value to a Novell Network ... while at the same time letting NT Server customers know that Novell has solutions for the problems they're having ... that MSFT doesn't have!

Novell Marketing seems to have done the equivalent of opening the gates of Troy for a MSFT horse. I sure hope that Eric Schmidt (with a little help from his friends) can get that (NT Server) MSFT horse back where it belongs ... as a 'minor part' of a Novell Network, for customers that insist on running MS BackOffice. Of course, if they would rather have an Oracle Server instead of MS SQL Server ... or if they want NSCP Suitespot instead of IIS ... of if they want to use Sun's Java IDE ... then, obviously the best platform is IntraNetware ... and then they can 'tolerate' an oddball server like NT in the Network, and NOVL can even offer you some add on products to make it more manageble. Sick the Oracle & Netscape Sales team on these accounts!

Now, if you want to switch to NT Servers ... soon you'll have to throw out Oracle, NSCP, "Real Java", Netware ... because you'll have to become a 'pure NT Server network ... and one day only MicroSoft 'blessed' applications will run on the Network.

This Novell Marketing/Sales 'co-operation with MSFT' while MSFT puts a knife between their ribs isn't good enough ... NOVL Management needs to exhibit a 'take charge' attitude with Networking ... and show that MSFT doesn't have what it takes to keep up with Novell's Server technology, just because we need to deal with MSFT as Network Clients doesn't mean we have to welcome MSFT to share our Server business.

MSFT will take enough of the server business without Novell's help! It's way past the time to stop helping them!

Oops ... I got a little to wound up here! ... I'll stop for a while!
