Taro: Although Germany bet on the ISDN track, it brings up the whole question of ISN anyway. Judging by your post, you would know that ISDN has had many problems concerning interoperability (I used to be involved due to H.320 video conferencing). Within the UK ADSL is likely to explode, with BT offering other operators access to their last mile (if not it will be enforced by OFTEL).

Not too sure about your post by saying the last 170kHz reserved for ISDN. Now my take is that ISDN is an option, so even in Germany you will have ISDN like services over ADSL (128 kbps) and the twisted copper pair. If it is legislated in Germany, then we may see a law change their. To date, I have had no rumour that Deutsche Telecom will move to ADSL. Still think that whatever happens here in the UK will be emulated elsewhere in Euroland...well have to watch the posturing of DT to see.

Over the years that I have been involved within telecom I am still amazed at the changes both political and technological. I remeber when one of my engineers expalined to me that there was no way that you could have data rates over something like 90 kbps over the PSTN...I was never so closed to assume he was right (like other here, we have seen it before). Basically a conduit is only a conduit and that never presents a limitation.
