Here's a weird notion, using your cell phone to pay machines. I guess, it's not even machine dependent. Recently saw an add here in Australia where you could order something from the TV and charge it to you telephone bill.

What if this becomes a standard? The Telco becomes a sort of bank for small transactions, using the cell phone as a smart card sort of magic debit wand?

I think you have a good reason to carry a laptop based on your arguments, but can you carry a laptop and not have a mobile phone? If you need the phone, you still have 2 devices, and certainly there will be times when you just don't want to bulk and bother of the laptop. Then, you'll settle for a little less function for convenience. Add in all the things that are totally not serious work related like getting a phone listing from a on line yellow pages and you'll see reason to have a good phone no matter what other devices you keep.

Mark
