Bi-directionality has been one of the hallmarks of this technology. There are many others which make this a distinct beast. Once it's matured standard WDM won't be able to compete anywhere with it. Part of that maturity depends on the maturity of the existing fiber optic plant. You have to have fiber to the PC. That is still years away. Why do you say the company was "shopped"? It is private. Maybe you mean they were looking for development arrangements. Due to the raw state of the technology the company could not realistically go public. It has been surmised that Level 3 has a testing arrangement and as is clear from yesterday's post they are working with SGI's parallel file processing implementation, but in a way it is a technology which is ahead of the ability to apply it. So they are going to exotic places where throughput demand is off the charts. It's a good strategy.
