Kevin - Re: Sharptooth is eating Intel's lunch right now in the notebook market. This is one of the few brights spots in AMD's ASP picture. The situation is only going to get worse for Intel when Sharptooth is on .18u. IMHO, you hit the nail on the head there. The K6-III is (almost) the perfect notebook chip. I would venture that well over 90% of all notebook users don't care at all about floating point performance. This could change with 'multimedia notebooks' (DVD), but 1. I don't really think that will be a significant part of the market for the immediate future. 2. AMD could remedy this by adding the new (Athlon) 3DNow! instructions (that are made specifically to speed up things like MPEG decoding). The sole problem with the K6-III mobile seems to be power consumption and operating temperature. While not overly serious [a problem with the current numbers], this is one area where the Intel chips have an advantage. Even with the move to .18mu, I expect Intel-based notebooks to maintain a 5-10% longer battery-life. --fyodor
