I worked for PNB/US West for 17 years, I run the oldest ISP in the Pacific
Northwest, and as a result I am reasonably familiar with computer technology as
it applies to the Internet and communications industry in general.

I also have read and heard enough of Gary North to know that he is not
simply unintelligent. So I've come to the conclusion that he has an agenda,
something personal to gain by inciting mass hysteria. Too bad for the rest of
us I guess.

I am hopeful that the masses will simply be too hung over to care and it
will be a non-event.

But if the prophecies do become real, the question is are they being
fulfilled by God, or self-fulfilled? In either case I don't find much hope or
comfort. If they are being fullfiled by God, then it's really true that God is
the sadistic egomaniac that many mainstream religions portray God as being, if
on the other hand it's self-fulfilled, then a change in human behavior is the
only hope of getting through it. Neither scenerio leaves me with a warm and
fuzzy feeling.

But again one needs to look at the purpose of prophesy, and I think that
the purpose of prophesy is only to point out the negative consequences of
continuing down a particular path and to give an opportunity to avoid it, not
that it is an absolute indication of a preordained and unavoidable future.
