Hey- from one geek to another, All you need to do to understand the meaning of a "steep learning curve" is switch your axis in your own words. Y axis = time X axis = amount learned graphically, if a learning curve is steep -- one that rises quickly -- then it really represents rapid learning. the anal engineer in me says: think of it this way, if the x-axis is time and the y is degree of learning, then wouldn't a flat (or oblique) curve indicate that it takes more time to get smart? (the difficulty of ascending a steep hill having nothing to do with, of course.) regards schlep
