I thought we had concluded that Geoff was poorly informed when he made his unfortunate comment, and had decided to forgive him. After all, writing a brilliant book doesn't make the author omnipotent. As far as filtering down, that just helps set lower expectations which makes Gorilla performances seem even more dramatic.
