Yes, it is well known that most antidepressants can induce a manic episode in patients with bipolar affective disorder (manic depression). First, mania is not violence. Second, in general, it would be considered improper to prescribe an antidepressant to a patient with bipolar disorder without the patient also being prescribed a mood stabilizer. I'm not going to get into a Ritalin debate, but here is a good, basic summary of the use of Ritalin for the treatment of ADHD, including side effects and problems.
