To all, in all seriosity,

Yesterday's spectacular Bre-X scandal is only the latest illustration of the grave dangers of relying entirely on a company's own press releases for information.
(Bre-X's stock rose 100,000% as their reported gold discovery grew from 1M, to 30M, to 70M, then 200M oz. - the richest strike in history! When at last an independent group was allowed to inspect the site, a mysterious fire destroyed the records, their geologist died falling from a helicopter, and now we hear that in fact "no significant" gold can be extracted from their site.)

I hope the object lesson for potential NVID investors is clear. NVID has made incredible claims about its wondrous "products", but there does not yet appear to be a single independent evaluation. The 2 articles posted yesterday (#1336, 1337) only repeated NVID's own press releases, practically verbatim!, and cannot be considered independent confirmatory evidence. (These press releases are available on Business Wire, dates 1-Oct-96 and 27-Nov-96.) Another post (#1325) indicated that there was a report on Microsafe in the New England Journal of Medicine. If true, this would be of great interest, but I searched and could not find any such story. (Michael: A link to this story - if it really exists - would be greatly appreciated!)

And, it's worth keeping in mind that almost anything, including distilled water, can kill 99.99% of bacteria under optimal conditions; this is one reason disinfectants make for such easy scams.

I would love for someone to discover a miracle disinfectant, that is non-toxic, environmentally safe, harmless to humans, bees and plants, while incredibly deadly to bacteria, fungi and mites. And for a company named "Network Video International" to make this sensational microbiology breakthrough would be truly incredibe! But it sounds too good to be true, and until an impartial investigation can verify these astounding claims, with data published in an appropriate peer-reviewed scientific journal, EXTREME SKEPTICISM is called for.

Peace,
Droog
