I am curious whether you think if chemdex expanded their site to include other topics of concern to people like yourself, besides just procuring items, if it would be of interest. Stuff like getting small buyers like yourself together to buy in bulk to get better prices. I was also curious what the difference would be in price between chemdex and vwr direct. chemdex needs about a 6% gross margin I think. One billion is sales would generate 60 million in revenue. chemdex would offer a completely electronic interface to vwr and thus reduce vwr's costs. Is VWR a distributor that organizes a group of real suppliers or is it the actual supplier/producer of the products? Good luck with your temporary ID. Once that facility is in place (you can't just allow unfettered access and maintain operational control of the web site software/hardware) please let us know what the deal is.
