The only wash sale rule that would apply to a purchase is when one sells a stock at a profit, and then repurchases during the same session. Under those circumstances, one does not need to pay taxes on his profit. Of course this is not a wash sale per se, but the issue of postponing paying taxes (or for that matter deducting a loss and applying it to a gain is the same.
