A few weeks ago, Mr. Croc and I were out for a drive looking for a new put in site for our canoe. As we rounded a bend in the road, a tractor pulling a rake across a hay field came into view. Just then, the smell of new mown hay wafted in through the truck windows... Simultaneously, we blurted out, "Ah...that's the one thing I miss about haying!".

We stopped doing our own hay a few years ago. Miss the aroma of fresh mown hay... but don't particularly miss loading wagons or stacking hay up in a loft that is hotter than an oven.

BTW, ditto on the salty ocean air. Around the end of July I usually start getting this "I must go back to the sea" feeling. It's usually accompanied by either a real or imagined scent of ocean on the breeze. Very compelling and often results in a spur-of-the-moment trip to the coast for a salt air fix...
