Because of the skyrocketing crimes rates of the last two decades, hundreds of municipalities and counties and about twenty states have passed laws allowing any law abiding adult with no documented mental illnesses to obtain a permit to carry a weapon. The decrease in the national murder rate (and violent crime rate) is a direct result of the citizens in those jurisdictions arming themselves. Delete those jurisdictions, which represent about 30% of our national population and murder rates have climbed.
