"Furthermore, the point I am making is on the effects of using antidepressants for not manic depressive types, such as adhd."

OK! I am not a child and adolescent psychiatrist, but I do know that antidepressants are used sometimes by physicians to attempt to treat ADHD. Some physicians will try an antidepressant before they try Ritalin, with the thought that the antidepressant might be safer. Concerning Ritalin and ADHD, it is my opinion that it is significantly over-used. However, in appropriate situations, it is my opinion that it can be very effective. It is also important to keep in mind that ANY medication carries the risk of adverse effects. Look at Aspirin--one of the leading causes of death among medications. No medication should be prescribed or taken lightly.

Your point concerning the use of antidepressants, esp SSRI's, in children and adolescents with ADHD is a worthwhile concern. I don't believe there has been a lot of good research in this area, and there needs to be more.

My original point in all this was (and remains) that when psychotropic medications are used according to accepted medical standards, they do not induce violent behavior. My understanding of the medical research in this area supports this.

Have a nice w/e.
