["when does"]

hi tom,

yes "when does" is a better explanation than "windows"... i must have really wanted to hear the latter :)

dspg certainly seems to have hit the road running with the rf and baseband chip.. backlog for the rest of the year... 25% of product revenues next year... sheesh..

any guesses on who the new licensees are?: "one for its TeakLite(TM) DSP Core and the second for the TeakDSPCore"... (japan and usa: wireless/xdsl/cable modems)... think japan will be fujitsu (again) as so far (publically) they only licensed oak... and they are already working on next gen xdsl beyond their new adsl keywave chip which is due (in production quantities) q4 99... have been wondering if keywave itself will be teak or teak-lite ? also fujitsu (and lu and intc) lost libit to txn so guess fujitsu will be going it on their own (maybe with a different partner?) for cable silicon... and might need some help...

any ideas on usa?...

doesn't sound like we will have to wait too long for either to be named (a couple of weeks to a month)

there is a batch of stuff on dspg/audc agreements in the audc prospectus... basically audc has granted dspg various licenses to their technology:

"which include the following: (1) an unconditional, irrevocable and perpetual non-exclusive license permitting them (dspg) to sub-license our (audc) technology; (2) a non-exclusive license to use and modify part of our technology for use in DSP Group Inc's products (3) a non-exclusive license to make and sell DSP Group Inc's products that are based on our technology, including a right to sub-license such products; and (4) a non-exclusive license to make and sell DSP Group, Inc.'s products that are based on or include our NetCoder technology.."

..would imagine the above will cover dspg's ip telephony plans.. as you say, believe it's collaborate rather than compete between dspg/audc.. and probably they have reached a meeting of the minds over how to divide up the opportunities..

looking over the audc management, as expected there are some rather significant dspg ties: Shabtai Aldersburg, audc Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, co-founded both dspg and audc; Leon Bialik audc VP Engineering and Chief Technical Officer and Director, and co-founder of audc in 1993, was previously dspg director of Speech Compression technology from 1987-92 and from the look of it might be the "man" as key author of the ITU standard G.723.1 and developer of the MP-MLQ and NetCoder speech compression technologies...; and then there's also Alon Eilam audc VP of Operations, Dr Yoram Stettiner audc VP Advanced Technologies; and Zeev Pritzker VP Marketing and Sales, Europe and Asia, all of whom also came over from DSPG... and of course there's Igal Kohavi, Director of audc, chairman of the dsp group, chairman of VCON, etc etc

at first glance looks like there's some real (ex-dspg) talent at audc...

---

as far as silicon goes, don't know if audc uses dspg cores in their chipsets, that would make sense, but in any case audc uses dspg chips (as well as txn) for some of their signal processor products... in 98 audc purchased $1 million worth from dspg...

---

am keeping an eye on audc... like their customer list: alcatel, ascend, cisco, clarent, hypercom, and vocaltec

best o luck
