As someone who does media training for a living, I can tell you that a well-prepped and prepared CEO is very disciplined about what he/she says and which key messages are underscored in this rare opportunity to reach tens of millions of people with free media. I'd be interested to know if the "rehash of old news to pump up the stock" was one of those key messages. I bet the PR or media relations people were tearing their hair out when he came up with that one.
