Akula:

I am in my mid 70s so I will respond to your 15 yr. old point of view from my perspective.
Looking back, I would have to agree that we tend to remember the major events of our lives, the times we grew up in, the memories of past associations (even a cha-cha-cha with an exciting young lady will do) and over all this lies the mantle of nostalgia.
It is a photograph album in mind that remembers good and bad things almost equally but without the original ecstasy or agony. The main thing is not to be carried away with current events which to me are constantly recycling but only the names have changed. The media is out to make its living and sells and oversells for profit.
When one is young, you can see clearly and maybe more so than ever in your life. Adulthood brings burdens and self interests. You, perhaps, will remember and grieve over a favorite school teacher someday when you hear they have passed on, and you never took the time to say hello or goodbye. Some notable individuals of our personal past will always have a special place in our memories.
Nostalgia implies looking backwards, but you are correctly looking forward now.
History is a great collection of facts worth studying.
