The Kennedys...
I once thought this was a country without nobility, without
titles. Isn't it fitting that a US warship be assigned the "honor"
of taking his ashes to sea, when veterans have to await such a pivelege.
My own dissatisfaction with such a noble bloodline came with Chaddepedwick. I was a kid when JFK got elected, and as a Catholic felt proud. My father hung a picture of JFK up over the center of the bar - even non-Catholics felt something about a war veteran, a young
inspiring new president. When he was killed, my father framed the picture in black as a sign of mourning. When Teddy left the young girl to die, when he left the scene of the accident, my father took the picture down. He never looked at it again. he realized that the kennedy name and power was something that made them different, that
made them above the law. If I were to leave the scene of a fatal
accident, well, i guess they'd throw the book at me . If I were to
request being allowed the honor of being buried at sea, well, maybe
a garbage scow might be found.
I really feel sorry for all those so captivated by the Kennedy
title and power. I almost believed in the patient's bill of rights
until I saw Teddy's name behind it...I knew there was bound to be
a hitch somewhere.
