I think that AOL is on the wrong side of the standards issue.

I think there's more to it than messaging standards because of Microsoft's position as a predatory monopoly which is in fact leveraging into MSN and threatening the AOL subscriber base.

I think this is a good opportunity for open standard bearers to let the newly reformed Microsoft either display their commitment to open messaging standards by embracing open messaging standards across their product line (starting with Exchange server), or be exposed for merely making yet another breach of anti trust law for which the DOJ should seek injunctive remedy against.
