Coherent Completes Second Stage for BT
Business Wire - March 27, 1997 07:01
LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March, 27, 1997--Coherent Communications Systems, the leading international specialist in echo cancellation and voice enhancement technology, has recently shipped 350 groups of EC-6000 Series 2 Digital Echo Cancellers for BT's Digital International Switching Centre (DISC) at Keybridge House, UK. This represents the completion of a major two-stage contract, which involved some 18,000 channels of Coherent echo cancellation in total. The Coherent EC-6000 units were commissioned on schedule, operating with an Ericsson AXE 10 switch. BT's other DISC site at Vauxhall, London, operates as an unmanned installation, with the BT Network Operations Unit (NOU) responsible for remote site management on a day-to-day basis. Patricia Martin, International Performance Manager at BT, commented: "BT is committed to delivering top quality, value-for-money services to its customers. With increased digitalization and improved transmission quality of the international networks, there is a need to implement additional echo control to countries within Europe, where previously echo was not a problem. This is the primary focus behind the latest installation. We are impressed with the consistent performance and reliability of the Coherent cancellers delivered as the first phase of this installation."
Coherent's focus is to provide telcos, PTTs and network operators with the tools to maximize network performance and voice quality on wireline and wireless networks, across the full range of applications. The Company specializes in providing a complete turnkey service, encompassing all aspects of design, supply, installation and maintenance of the cancellers and associated network equipment. Coherent's EC-6000 Series 2 digital echo cancellers provide advanced echo control for both wireline telephone networks and wireless digital systems. Fully compliant with ITU-T standards, the products feature Coherent's state of the art ASIC devices, providing a flexible operating platform for consistent, reliable performance and the application of future software products. The Coherent echo canceller uses patented Non-Linear Processor (NLP) techniques, as well as fast and stable convergence (50mS for combined ERL and ERLE of 35dB) - both prerequisites for modern network applications. The products are optimized to ensure superior "subjective" voice quality and failsafe facsimile transmission.
The EC-6000 Series 2 Digital Echo Cancellers also support Coherent's range of application-specific software, enhancing the unit's adaptability for a wide range of problem-solving in different network situations. Software can be remotely downloaded and upgraded, providing a versatile and cost-effective means of maintaining maximum operational flexibility. In addition, the unit features local loopback facilities, extensive alarm reporting and self-test diagnostics, as well as significantly reduced power consumption for improved performance and reduced heat generation.
