Carl, amzn has failed at making money selling books, and they are failing at selling cd's. They will not make any money selling toys, as e-toys has that market. Other web sites have cars and airline tickets, as William will attest.

What Bezos attempted to do next was to go mushy, and talk about being the ultimate consumer destination and build the ultimate consumer value deal. He was really, really msuhy and vague, almost like a guy trying to buy time. "Hey! Maybe that's really what he was ..... "

Well that new vision was best represented by the "seach the web" engine they bought with stock. This idea failed completely and quickly. Where this leaves the vision, well your guess is as good as mine.

They now have 4,400 employees, several huge warehouses, and they are trying to find retail chains that will let them put up marketing displays, which are called point-of-purchase displays. But does AMZN not think the retail stores are the points of purchase?

All of this points to a company that is running out of options (no pun intended) and running out of time.
