Yes, that's right, the rhetoric was that the GST was to replace the Manufacturers' Sales Tax, which had been poorly thought out in the first place and which had been unfairly inhibiting Canadian manufacturers.

But - i betcha they are taking in a whole lot bigger gross with the GST than the MST ever cost. And the gross is meaningless - the collection and admin costs of the GST are horrendous ... i forget the percentage net of costs to RC but it is depressingly low.

Here's another absurdity - my business is in the trading of a commodity that ends up being exported, so while every single business along the line has to go through all the expensive motions of complying with the slavery edict of being an unpaid tax collector, the GST collected gets refunded as the finished commodity crosses the border.

We lose, they don't even make costs. Where the logic is in this, i do not know.
