China's Torch Program To Undertake 833 Projects In 1999 BEIJING, MARCH, 03, 1999 (ASIA PULSE)
The high-tech Torch Program will undertake 833 state-class projects in 1999 and preparations have started, according to the Torch Program Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The approved 833 projects were selected from among 1,160 submitted to the center.
Among them, 233 are new materials projects, 124 biological projects, 200 electronic information projects, 171 electromechanical projects, and 105 energy conservation and environment protection projects.
The projects are estimated to cost 19.492 billion yuan. Of the amount, 9.438 billion will have to be collected on their own and from localities and 10.054 billion from bank loans.
Torch Program, which started in 1988, is aimed at the commercializing and industrializing the production of research achievements to fuel regional economic growth. It mainly focuses on microelectronics, computer, information, laser, new materials, bioengineering, new energy sources, and energy conservation, mechanoelectronics technology and products.
The 833 projects are expected to generate 141.70 billion yuan in annual output value, 2.30 billion US dollars in exports, 16.526 billion yuan in tax payment, and 32.71 billion yuan in profits when they are completed.
The output value of 312 projects is expected to reach more than 100 million yuan each, 47, exceeding 500 million yuan each, and 18, exceeding one billion yuan each. |
