Hi Lin,..OT

Re:.Back to 1993/94, we had terrible inflation (CRB was around 250, copper at $1.50/lb compared with today's $0.70/lb).

I remember those numbers.<g> We were trading cu options at the time and just in the past 2 weeks got a letter from Sumitomo about some kind of settlement related to trading activities in that time frame! Not that we made of lost any big money, just small wins and small losses but I guess Sumitomo has got to settle because of that rouge trader who locked up the market at that time?

i think the fed raised rates 6 or 7 times in '94. I had a chart on the rate changes for the last ten years but lost it. Will try to find it. In those days, the fed tended to overdo things each way. First they eased too much after the '91 recession, then they tightened too much when things took off again. Guess they're only human. <g >

I agree with you that Rubin was a very capable treasury secretary and wish he was still with it. He was particularly effective with market speculators since he understood Wall Street and the games those people sometimes play. I think we're now at a disadvantage with Summers else, some slick moves would have already been done about the dollar/yen games going on.

Don't know where rates are headed now but I think it's somewhat dependent on the dollar.

Re:.Now we entered the volatile August with fund managers on vacations and day traders are getting crazy, I think we will have fun.

I do too. I guess those fund managers that are already up 30%+ for the year will be closing out positions in order to take August and Sept. off! Maybe they'll watch the mayhem from the Hamptons? Then jump back in when the final sell-off in Oct. hits for their next 6 months gains.<g>

Have a good weekend Lin,

Lee
