The phrase I used regarding oil was "dig it out". Drilling is simply a way of digging into the earth and getting resources out. We do have oil wells in California, and I am fully familiar with how they work. You are right that we consider them very ugly out here, particularly when they sit out in the ocean off our lovely coast and ruin the view across the Pacific.

The burning of fossil fuels is rapidly compromising our ability to survive. I would think that some day farmers--even the ones in Louisiana--will connect global warming with the billions of dollars they are suffering in crop losses. What seems to be totally missing from the global warming equation is an understanding of the fact that dependence on fossil fuels will cost all of us dearly, in money and lives.

I just hope it is not too late to stop the destruction when it dawns on everyone!
