>>Think of SI as a park.<< Very good point. The Classic SI feels like people, a community of all kinds who share a common interest in the stock market. The New SI feels like a stock market info site, where community is secondary.

Why? I think it is as simple as the fact that less of the posted message is visible on each post without scrolling. The sluggishness of the Beta as takes the fun out it. I visited the same post on the Classic and the New, as a member and as a guest:

Classic member: exchange2000.com
>>First of all, my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Beta process thus far - even the folks that are not yet fans of the New SI. We have made a number of significant improvements during the Beta process, many of which were as a direct result of your feedback and suggestions. For example, some of the changes that we have launched recently include:

* Revised color scheme - out with the brown, in with the grey!
* Customization option for stretched or fixed size messages - with or without borders.
* A variety of navigation changes to move or add important links.
* Added back the Search This Subject only feature - (sorry that one got lost in the first place).

Each of the above shows progessively less of the posted message. You have to log out to see the smaller view as a guest. The Beta uses the same address, so I had to register as my dog to see it. My surprise was that I liked Classic SI much less when seeing the guest view than the member's view of Beta. Naturally, SI Classic is best for members now.

Conclusion: I would prefer the New if it showed at least as much of each post initially as the Classic. This difference is more exagerated on WinCE hhandheld devices.

It would be nice to have an Ignore button, too.

As for Susan G's comment, >>"...most of the complaints about the new SI are because people resist change."<< I say, "Oh yeah?! Oh, Yeah?! Well....that's what you think!" ; )
