My amateur photographer's 2 cents on sunrises and sunsets ...

While air pollution could be a helpful factor, it's primarily
cloud formations, particularly the high thin variety in fall
and winter, that contributed more than anything else to the
exceptionally good sunrises and sunsets that I've seen.

The most spectacular sunset I've seen was atop the Continental
Divide near Estes Park, CO in October. My favorite sunrise
was at a boat harbor in Rockport, Mass., also in October.
