TO ALL: Update on Clubhouse, and on New/Old SI

I have not received any kind of real response to my query about the disappearance of the Clubhouses, including our own thread's Clubhouse. The nearest I got to one was this, from BryanB (who speaks for the Go2Net engineering team):

About clubhouses, I'm not avoiding you - I just don't have a good answer for you yet.

I've said it on this thread before. I don't make promises that I can't keep. So, if I haven't answered something yet, it's most likely because I'm still studying the situation.

Which, of course, raises the question -- why were the Clubhouses eliminated in the first place? And that, in turn, leads me to a broader issue.

Many of the people who took part in the Beta test have been distressed to see the disappearance of key features from the "new" SI. But as long as they could continue to post on the old SI, they were willing to wait until all these "oversights" had been corrected. Then -- the word came that the old SI, which we prefer to call "Classic SI", would be shut down some 30 days or so after the official opening of the New SI, which has already taken place. (And whatever you may hear to the contrary, so far there has been NO official commutation of the death sentence.)

There is now a petition to keep Classic SI functioning; that is, to give subscribers the option of using EITHER the New SI OR the Classic SI site. Some of our thread regulars have signed the petition already. Those of you who have not are urged to take a look at it, even if you do not choose to sign it.

Thanks for listening.
