GO2Net bought SI as a clientele database, an asset, and a window for a portal. Like, you know, to generate revenue.
Imagine the largest shareholders, the Board, et al. 30 million was allowed/offered for SI because they were convinced, by themselves or the juniors, that they could amortize it and profit from it. (Well, duh. But it's what's important about this.)
They have a plan to see results.
They couldn't afford Yahoo. I have the oddest feeling, that the reason our new format looks like Yahoo, is so that it is not necessary to explain it to anyone.
Superiors, suitors, accountants, historians.
This is part of the progress they're making; the most visible part. They hope the revenue numbers will follow.
There is no way they bought SI for 30 million to let it sustain and profit by itself.
They bought a database; a customer list and profile. |
