An interesting commentary from David Jones on Billserv available at wallstreetinterview.

Some highlights of the story are below.

DJ - Sallie Mae contacted BLLS - they saw value in ability to distribute bills to Checkfree and Transpoint, Now we have a value add to the larger billers that want to distribute bills to many places

WSI - has the target audience shifted to larger Corporations or are you still under the belief that small & medium sized companies will be the target.

DJ - I think that we are going to shift our marketing message to say that we will do business with any biller out there but we will continue to go after the small & medium biller.

DJ - bills.com to provide low cost with advertising and sponsorships subsidizing cost of bill paying fee. We wrapped bill paying and presentment into a portal business model that has been very successful in the Internet marketplace and feel that it will subsidize the cost to us as a Company for offering EBPP to the consumers.

Next quarter (Oct-Nov) the site will be totally launched.

DJ - Only a couple of competitors out in the market competing in same business model we are in. We do not compete with the software companies trying to sell software packages to billers - that's one of the miss conceptions out there. We are actually partners with some of the software companies (Bluegill & CYCH) for example. We really only have 2 competitors EDS & IBS - only three companies to have relationship with CKFR and Transpoint & give biller full distribution capability. Difference between us and them is focus in different market segments. They are only concentrating on very large billers.
