Steven, RE: If I read what you are saying correctly you believe that McGinn isn't the man for the job? You don't think he has done very well as CEO?

You read me correctly.

McGinn has been the beneficiary of a wonderful portfolio of products at LU. That, IMO, has been the driving force since the LU IPO. Going forward, just having a solid portfolio won't cut it.

McGinn is a career AT&T guy, going back the the days of regulation. (He started with Illinois Bell in 1969, and never left AT&T.) I am sure he is a bright guy, but when your formative years of your career are within a government regulated industry, you don't have the same perspective of someone like John Chambers (CSCO), who got to witness the beginning of Wang Labs' blow up first hand.

To take LU to the 'next level', an outsider is needed to get rid of some of the fifedoms within LU that are nothing but expense centers. (OT--I am reminded of the Chicago Bulls in the late 80's. Doug Collins had done a fine job of getting the team to the upper echelon, but that was primarily on the back of his existing talent. It took another coach to use that talent to make the team truly excellent.)
