Always use a Stop Limit Order (rather than a stop market) if you use stops. If the stock is liquid enough, a stop limit order does the job as well when the stock slowly declines.

Besides that: In a big gap down, where you normally would buy the dip, you get rid of your stocks perhaps at the lowest price, when using a Stop Market, instead of a Stop Limit.
