Excel Switching to Provide Switching Infrastructure to Motorola's Space Systems and Services Division
Open, Programmable Switching Solution Provides Flexibility, Scalability for Global Communications Network
HYANNIS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 2, 1999-- Excel Switching Corporation (NASDAQ:XLSW - news), a leading provider of open voice and data switching platforms for telecommunications networks worldwide, today announced that its Expandable Switching System (EXS) has been selected to provide network infrastructure to Motorola's Space Systems and Services Division. The Space Systems and Services Division of Motorola will use Excel's EXS programmable switch, as well as Excel's EXS Call Control software, to create custom call processing applications. This agreement highlights Excel's longstanding relationship with Motorola. The Space Systems and Services Division is the fifth Motorola division that has chosen to implement solutions based on Excel's EXS product line.
''Excel's solution is a cost-effective answer to the custom switching needs of a global communications network. With Excel, we will be able to meet our customers' unique call processing requirements,'' said Ron Taylor, vice president and general manager of Motorola's Space Systems and Services Division. ''Excel's EXS provides the reliability, flexibility and scalability necessary for successful, growing networks.''
Motorola chose the EXS programmable switching system specifically for its customizable EXS Call Control environment, Excel said. EXS Call Control leverages Excel's patented Programmable Protocol Language (PPL) technology, which reduces time-to-market for custom call models and enhanced services on the EXS family of switching solutions. Excel's technology will allow for customized and optimized call processing features that meet Motorola's strict performance requirements. This same PPL technology has enabled Excel to deploy EXS systems in more than 60 countries worldwide.
''We are excited to continue to expand our relationship with Motorola,'' said Robert Madonna, president and CEO of Excel. ''This activity underscores the power of open switching and Excel's commitment to provide open, standards-based infrastructure for existing and next generation networks.''
