Statistically it is much safer in Canada than the U.S.; compare violent crime and murder rates between Toronto (5M) versus a similarily sized U.S. city; factor of 25-30 times less for the Canadian city.

Every country has it's % of lunatics ... with easy access to hand guns this makes them potential mass murdering lunatics. Less guns in a society means that frequency of use must be reduced.
