THADD Success ! According to Bloomburg.. Lockheed Martin THAAD Posts Second Straight Success Washington, Aug. 2, (Bloomberg) -- No. 1 defense contractor Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Theater High-Altitude Area Defense System, or Thaad, hit its target this morning, a boost for the U.S. Defense Department's top weapons program for protecting troops, according to officials. The second consecutive successful intercept came at 7:45 a.m. Washington time at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, a government spokeswoman said. The intercept was more difficult than the June test because it involved hitting a surrogate warhead separating from its booster in outer space, creating the potential for the Thaad to hit the wrong target. ''Technologically this is pretty huge,'' said Cai Von Rumohr, a defense analyst for SG Cowen & Co. who rates Lockheed Martin a ''buy.''
