It is a revisitation of Dante's Inferno. Here is a link to the cantos.

Canto I:
Dante finds himself in a forest blocked by a lion, a leopard, and a she-wolf. They drive him back until he has no place to go, and then Virgil arrives, explaining that "he has been sent to lead Dante from error." He says that the only way for Dante to get to purgatory, and then go onto Heaven, is through Hell. He then offers himself as Dante's guide, and they begin their journey.
