i don't think the thrust here was to do something for SI that they wanted to do. in fact that is part of what is so frustrating and annoying about how they have handled this "roll out". it's the clearest example of take it or leave it that i've witnessed in a long time. and i see their willingness to tweak colors and move a few things around on a page as throw the dog a bone appeasement.

the petition thread is an opportunity for SI members to go on record. many of us just can't imagine SI going forward without paying attention to the votes to keep the classic version. and even if we can imagine them ignoring the majority, the act of going on record is still appealing, in more ways than one.
