Steven, you're quite right, and we agree on what is happening. AT&T is using the typical strategies that we have become accustomed to from gorillas - forging ahead no matter what, despite their knowledge that the cost of their systems is ultimately going to be higher than the cost of adopting CDMA. But you know how it is. Big egos don't like to admit they might be wrong! What I see happening is a faster than expected switch to digital wireless for the second phone, and maybe even the first phone. CDMA has an edge here, in terms of cost, fewer dropped calls, and, with the advent of Q's new chip next year, far faster data rates than are possible with a standard wired set-up using a 56K modem. No amount of marketing is going to be successful in fighting a technology that much better than GSM/TDMA because in the end, the CDMA service providers will have the cost advantage. This will be particularly true for VodafoneAirtouch, which purchased some very good cellular franchises at far less cost per potential subscriber than what AT&T paid for McCaw cellular. That investment will turn out to be a true albatross for AT&T, and in fact must be having some influence on its decision to delay further investment until they have milked TDMA for every possible cent. Big mistake, if you ask me.
