Elmer,

Yes, you're right. It was a pentium MMX and not a pentium pro. By doing some more digging, I found that the chip in question is suspected to be a beta so actual released chip performance may be better. If you look at home.t-online.de you'll find that Klamath is in the same league as the K6. For that matter a regular pentium MMX is as well but it seems like Intel is promoting the Klmath to be better. Notice that I'm comparing the klamath 233 mhz to a 250 mhz k6. I know that the k6 is running faster in mhz than the klamath but consider that the klamath has a cache module that is running at half the speed of the processor (that certainly helps). If the k6 had a secondary cache module running at half the speed of the processor, I'm sure it would edge out the klamath since it comes close to it in the 250 mhz instance. Note that at 250 mhz the secondary cache is running at bus speed which is 83 mhz. When AMD's chipset comes out and goes at 100 mhz my claim of the K6 being equal or better than a klamath will hold up). I'm not that bent on the k6 beating the klamath but the big win for me is that when it comes time to upgrade, all I need to do is buy the chip. If I wanted a klamath then I'd have to get a new motherboard and a new chip. The klamath will be 25% more than the k6 and klamath motherboards will probably start around $200 or so. That is money that I can use for something else ( I can probably get the new k6 chipset motherboards and still come out ahead and have equal or better performance to a klamath system so the k6 is still a win in my book). I think AMD will be pretty successfull with this chip.
