The flaw here (if y'all ask me) is the position that there is a scientific and technical "standpoint". Standpoints are things of faith, of practical politics. Often I reject or ignore the standpoint but retain the simpler, purer message of the underlying science. It is worth noting that science itself, practiced fairly, displays zero philosophical hysteresis. Scientists do, of course - and reg'lar folk do even more so.
